Medieval strategy games take players out of the modern times and drop them headfirst into a world of knights, kings and expanding empires. The brutal feudal times have inspired a wide range of great games over the years. One of these games is "Goodgame Empire." The early "Beta" version of this game is available for players interested in checking it out. Players must sign up for a free gamer profile before they begin.
"Goodgame Empire" is a real-time strategy game played from a 3/4 overhead perspective. Progress is often kind of slow in "Goodgame Empire" due to the real-time environment but this is not a detriment. In fact, it's perfect for players that don't have a lot of time to devote to playing the game every day.
Players start by accumulating resources such as food, wood an stone. Wood and stone are necessary for building everything in the game. Food feeds the peasants, workers and soldiers in the army. Each item such as buildings and even weapons require crafting them out of a certain amount of stone and wood. Peasants will chop down trees for wood and mine for stone.
After players build up a solid base, they can create an army to take over other castles. Units include swordsmen, archers and siege equipment such as catapults. Taking over castles helps expand your empire and increase your power. However, players can also go on different game "Quests." These quests help players earn experience points to gain levels. With higher levels comes better buildings and equipment.
The graphics and sound are quite great for a free online game. The graphics don't break any new ground in details or realism but are pleasing on the eye. They are a little-cartoonish but in a fun way. Within their limitations, they offer great details. Players can see peasants take each individual step as they work. Swords and arrows fly through the air, shaking as they go.
The sound quality matches the graphics. These are not the "bleeps and bloops" of earlier video games. Great sound effects such as footfalls, grunts and metal clangs make the game immersive and impressive. Again, these aren't exactly ground breaking graphics but are very detailed and appropriate for this type of mmo game.
"Goodgame Empire" is a fun and diverse strategy game that offers many benefits to players that are willing to dive in and try it out!!

Pogo Swing is a flash game with a simple premise: a group of children want to buy a rocket powered swing set that costs $50,000. One character decides the best way to acquire the funds would be to jump as far as they can on their ordinary swing set. When asked how exactly this is supposed to earn them money, he humorously replies that it is a Flash game--implying that the game doesn't need a logical premise to be fun. With this simple philosophy in mind, the game begins.
Gameplay - The gameplay is very simple. Payers control one of the children on the swing, and must press the right and left arrows back and forth to control the momentum gained on the swing. When the optimum momentum and angle is reached, players hit the space bar to send their kid hurtling through the air. The object is to get as far as possible. While flying through the air, players can make their character flip left or right to gain more points. Mushrooms and birds are present in the play area that can give players an additional boost to their distance while sand boxes can stop players in their tracks.
After a few rounds, players can begin buying upgrades to assist in their airborne venture. Each upgrade has several levels to be attained and these upgrades include enhancing the swing set itself, giving the players more agility, and acquiring a pogo stick. By flipping their character so that the pogo stick touches the ground, players can cover an enormous amount of ground.
The controls are simple and fluid, and the upgrade system keeps the game interesting.
Graphics - The graphics for this title are clean and colorful and give the game a nice cartoony feel. Every time an upgrade is purchased it shows on the swing set or character, which is a nice graphical touch.
Sound - The sounds to the game are simplistic, but work well. The creak of the swing and the sound of a kid bouncing off something are well made. The music is comprised of a simple repeating piano piece that is light and easy an on the ears, creating a relaxed environment.
Overall: This is a fun and well made flash game that will keep players busy trying to fully upgrade everything to achieve the maximum distance. Highly recommended.
